Part of what makes La Jolla so great is the unique local businesses that give our community a personable touch. With that being said, I want to continue in my endeavors to draw attention to the businesses that are making a positive impact in our area. A town isn’t a town without a tasty and creative local sandwich shop. In La Jolla, that sandwich shop is Deli-icious.
Deli-icious is a cozy breakfast and lunch spot that’s been providing awesome customer service and tasty food since 1992. It’s appropriately tag lined “the locals deli,” because it’s a go-to for locals on their lunch breaks.
This is one of those “hole in the walls” that have a lot bigger flavors than their dining room would suggest. Nonetheless, it’s located in a cute building on Prospect Street, situated between designer stores and galleries.
They have an outside patio and small dining area where you can enjoy your meal, or you can order them for carry out. It can be difficult to find a cheap place to grab a bite to eat in La Jolla, Deli-icious manages to provide inexpensive meals without diminishing from the quality of their ingredients. Their menu is extensive, and everything on it is made with quality ingredients.
For breakfast, they have a variety of breakfast burritos, muffins, fruits, pastries, and of course, delicious coffee. Their lunch menu has a variety of paninis, sandwiches, soups, and salads. You can get your sandwiches and salads made to order or try one of their specialty items. They also have vegetarian options.
Last time I made my way into Deli-icious, I decided to try their Buffalo Chicken Panini. Since I’m a fan of anything that’s made buffalo style, I knew this wouldn’t disappoint. This panini tasted like it was made in heaven’s kitchen. It’s hard for me to do the tastiness of this sandwich justice with words. Thinking about it is making my mouth water. As the name would suggest, it’s a panini made with buffalo chicken, and it also has melted cheddar cheese on sourdough that’s pressed on the grill.
Sometimes chicken breasts can be tricky to cook. They get dried out easily and end up being a stringy mess. Not this buffalo chicken. The chicken was succulent and tender. The spicy tang of the buffalo sauce perfectly complemented the richness of the cheese. Not to mention, the crispy pressed bread added a nice touch. The sandwich came with a side of ranch to help cut the heat away, but it wasn’t spicy enough for me to need the ranch.
Beyond their sandwiches, they also have tasty treats, if you have a hankering for something sweet. Although it’s not the best for your teeth, their candied nuts and Rice Krispy Treat are the perfect way curb a sweet tooth. I’ve also heard through the grapevine that their soups are amazing and fresh. The soup is next on my bucket list.
Are you hungry, yet? Good! Head over to Deli-icious and expect great food with the awesome, personalized customer service that can only be found at a local business.
